The State Department for Trade and Enterprise Development in collaboration with the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) has embarked on a monitoring and evaluation exercise with a view of improving the product development programme for the benefit of exporters.

KEPROBA has been implementing the Product development programme with a view to develop, diversify and brand Kenya’s export products to ensure competitiveness in local, regional and international markets.
The Programme is implemented in a series of steps that includes conceptualization, designing, development, packaging, branding, certification, mini-exhibition and test marketing of the newly created or newly rebranded goods or services.
Capacity building is done through instructive training workshops and Onsite Company coaching where the enterprises are facilitated to develop new product designs and packaging.
The scope of the monitoring and evaluation exercise will cover project implementation status, impact to the enterprises, challenges and propose necessary interventions for the product development programme.
The monitoring exercise targets beneficiaries of the ongoing product development programme while evaluation targets beneficiaries of the product development programme that was implemented in the financial year 2017/2018.
This exercise will involve visiting of the beneficiaries in their locations in various Counties to administer questionnaires and employ other data collection methods such as observation and review of documentation to ascertain validity of the data collected.
Objectives of the Monitoring and Evaluation Programme
- To undertake monitoring of the ongoing product development programme to track and ascertain its level of implementation and fulfilment of the set targets and assess the eventual attainment of the intended objectives.
- To undertake evaluation of the product development programme to establish its success rate among the beneficiaries and propose sustainability measures.
- To suggest ways of improving the product development programme to ensure attainment of optimal impact.
