This research was conducted between the months December 2013 & February 2014. The research was conducted in the Angolan towns of Luanda, Lubengo, Cabinda & Soyo in the provinces of Luanda, Lobito, Huita Province, Huambo & North Eastern Angola.
The research findings revealed that, the Angolan republic provides a myriad of trade and investment opportunities for Kenyan investors and businessmen in almost all the economic and business sectors of Angola including but not limited to Agriculture, Education, ICT, Banking & Financial services, Construction, Automotive Industry, Fast moving & consumer goods and the provision of professional services.
However, in conducting the study, a number of barriers were identified that needed to be overcome for Kenyan investors, businessmen and traders to fully benefit from the Angolan market. These include logistical challenges, ignorance on the Angolan market requirements, poor legal regime, lack of support from the Kenyan government & agencies, stiff competition from countries such as China, Portugal, India, UK & Brazil and the negative perception of Kenyans by Angolans. Some of these issues are currently being addressed such as policy issues governing trade relations between the two countries (with the recent visit of the President of Kenya to Angola and the planned signing of several agreements between the two countries).
