- There was increased performance in Kenya’s exports in the first nine months of 2020 (Q1-Q3) for tea, coffee, mineral ores, edible products, horticulture, and cereals preparations, compared to the same period in 2019.
- Of these products, tea exports performed quite well, comparatively increasing by Ksh. 17.2 billion (21%) from Ksh. 82.2 billion in 2019 (Q1-Q3) to Ksh. 99.4 billion in 2020 (Q1-Q3).
- The export products whose values declined included apparels and clothing accessories, vegetable oils and fats, industrial machinery and equipment, paper and articles of pulp.
- The sharpest decline of the products was that of industrial machinery and equipment. This could be attributed to the complexities brought about the current pandemic which adversely affected the sector.
